Harry Potter and Deathly Hallows

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

Rating scale 1-5
CriteriaRatingComments
pacing/plot3.5The plot was really outstanding, J.K Rowling did a really nice job rapping up the series she had started. While the actual pacing wasn’t really that great.
characters4The characters all bring their own unique qualities to the story, though I myself think they could be a little more distinct.
writing5I have always admired J.K Rowling’s writing.  Also it takes a lot of determination to write a New York Times best selling seven book series.
mood4The mood of this last installment in the Harry Potter series is much darker and serious then the previous six books.
narrative4.5I think the narrative was pretty good, after all it’s hard to write a narrative style book and not keep saying “and they said and he said...”

Review
Many have written books about witches and wizards, though none will ever compare to J.K Rowling’s Harry Potter series.  I am now going to give my opinion on her last installment, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.  From the beginning J.K Rowling’s story of the “boy who lived” was an instant hit.  So by the time the seventh came out they had both kids and adults lined up outside the bookstores.

One thing I think a lot of readers were not happy with was the pacing at certain point.  When Ron left Harry and Hermione the book began getting slower and less eventful.  I think she didn’t have to write so much about that time just between Harry and Hermione, or maybe she could have shortened it, or made it more eventful.  Other than that the story and plot were really brilliant.  She managed to wrap up the smallest details you would not even remember from the first books.  Tying everything together perfectly.  This last novel in her unforgettable series really showed how much the characters had grown and changed.

The writing, mood, and narrative of J.K Rowling’s classic novels have always been admired.  Though the actual writing hasn’t changed much since the first book, the mood has grown much darker as the time comes for Harry to finally face his destiny.  Judging that the entire series was written in a narrative style I think J.K. Rowling did a pretty good job avoiding saying “and they said this and they said that.”  Over all I would give Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows four stars.  I would definitely recommend it to any one who enjoys fiction.
