Trash Response #2

  • I think Olivia grew up in a family that didn't really have any money problems.  So when she came to Behala it really opened up her eyes to the rest of the world.  She realized that the people in her world really didn't care about anything other than money and what it could do for them.  And I think that really changed her character and her perspective on the world.
  • The article that was the most anti-Zapanta was the "University Voice."  They said that he was a "bad, greedy old man" and that he was "lining pockets."  While the most pro-Zapanta was the "Star Extra."  They said that they were "confident that a breakthrough is imminent."
  • I think Andy Mulligan placed the last scene in the graveyard because it made it more suspenseful and dramatic.  What with all the people and it being the day of the dead.

Life Among Trash
Towers of garbage stacked high, as if reaching towards the sky,
The children sift among the grimy, dirt-covered trash, for it is their ticket to survival.
They are covered in grease and disease, most search through the muck all day hoping to find something worthwhile,
The question remains, will they? will they ever find anything but plastics, papers and stupp?
One boy does, he finds the treasure that will change his life.
Though it is not a usual treasure such as glittering gold or sparkling silver it is a treasure to him.  For that bag changes everything.

Roald Dahl essay

Roald Dahl’s Life and Stories
Roald Dahl was one of the most successful children’s writers of all time.  Probably the reason of all his success was due to his own life experiences and childhood.  Though he had a troubled childhood, he had many adventures that he based many of his books on.  He was more than a writer though, he did so many things you would never imagine.

Roald Dahl was a pilot for the British Air Force in World War II.  That was where he met Ian Fleming, the author of the James Bond series, and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.  He also began work on his own adaption of his book “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.”  He was originally assigned to write the screenplay for the 1971 version of it but missed the deadline.  So it was taken over by David Seltzer.  After the movie was made, Dahl disowned it, saying it was too focused on Willy Wonka and not enough on Charlie.
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was not the only one of his books that was made into a major motion picture though.  Almost every book he wrote was made into a movie.  Even his first story caught the eye of Walt Disney himself.  It was called “The Gremlins” and though Roald Dahl had many meetings with Walt Disney about it, the movie was never made.
He also was an inventor.  When his youngest son Theo was hit by a taxi in New York, he flew out of his baby carriage and suffered severe brain damage.  Dahl along with a doctor and an engineer created the Wade-Dahl-Till valve, which helped thousands of children with brain damage.  He also worked for the British government for a short time while he visited America.  Another thing most people don’t know about Roald Dahl is that when his children's books were first published many parents and adults didn’t approve of them.  They thought they were disrespectful and rude.  Also his books usually showed parents in a bad light, and he also usually killed them off.  Though he did do this in almost all of his books, that was his style of writing.  He was creative, imaginative and original in almost every book he wrote.  He incorporated all of his childhood experiences and adventures to make his books become classics for generations.

Harry Potter and Deathly Hallows

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

pacing/plot3.5The plot was really outstanding, J.K Rowling did a really nice job rapping up the series she had started. While the actual pacing wasn’t really that great.
characters4The characters all bring their own unique qualities to the story, though I myself think they could be a little more distinct.
writing5I have always admired J.K Rowling’s writing.  Also it takes a lot of determination to write a New York Times best selling seven book series.
mood4The mood of this last installment in the Harry Potter series is much darker and serious then the previous six books.
narrative4.5I think the narrative was pretty good, after all it’s hard to write a narrative style book and not keep saying “and they said and he said...”

Review
Many have written books about witches and wizards, though none will ever compare to J.K Rowling’s Harry Potter series.  I am now going to give my opinion on her last installment, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.  From the beginning J.K Rowling’s story of the “boy who lived” was an instant hit.  So by the time the seventh came out they had both kids and adults lined up outside the bookstores.

One thing I think a lot of readers were not happy with was the pacing at certain point.  When Ron left Harry and Hermione the book began getting slower and less eventful.  I think she didn’t have to write so much about that time just between Harry and Hermione, or maybe she could have shortened it, or made it more eventful.  Other than that the story and plot were really brilliant.  She managed to wrap up the smallest details you would not even remember from the first books.  Tying everything together perfectly.  This last novel in her unforgettable series really showed how much the characters had grown and changed.

The writing, mood, and narrative of J.K Rowling’s classic novels have always been admired.  Though the actual writing hasn’t changed much since the first book, the mood has grown much darker as the time comes for Harry to finally face his destiny.  Judging that the entire series was written in a narrative style I think J.K. Rowling did a pretty good job avoiding saying “and they said this and they said that.”  Over all I would give Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows four stars.  I would definitely recommend it to any one who enjoys fiction.

plot/pacing 4Though I personally enjoyed the plot immensely it did get a bit confusing.  On the other hand the pacing was superb and kept every one waiting to see how it would end. Although a lot of people didn’t like the ending, I thought it was imaginative and very original.
actors and characters3.5 Overall the acting in Inception was pleasant.  The film stared: Leonardo DiCaprio, Ellen Page and Joseph Gordon-Levitt.
directing5I think Christopher Nolan did an excellent job directing Inception.  The story he put together was confusing, suspenseful and kept audiences on the edge of their seats the entire time.
mood 5Inception’s mood stayed dark and serious most of the movie, leaving you at the end wondering if it had ended happily or not.
special effects5I thought the special effects were first-rate.  From the room of zero gravity to the city in “Limbo.”

Review

Inception is a story of a thief, but Dom Cobb is no common thief that steals common things.  He enters others dreams, where he steals from there subconscious minds.  He now if offered a deal of a life time, the opportunity to be reunited with his children he has not seen in a matter of years.  The problem is the mission seems impossible, only one other has ever been able to plant an idea in some ones mind.  But Cobb believes he can do it again.  Even if the last time didn’t end so well.

Inception was directed by the famous film making visionary Christopher Nolan.  Who not only directed it but also wrote the screenplay.  The story of Dom Cobb that Nolan wrote and brought to life was action packed, full of suspense and kept the audience on the edge of their seats the entire time.  The film stared the legendary Leonardo DiCaprio, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Ellen Page.  The three-along with the rest of the cast really brought the film to life.  But their was something to be desired by their acting at times.

The pacing was perfect, when I try to think of a uneventful part none come to mind.  I personally thought the plot was superb.  Though many thought the plot confusing, I got it pretty easily the first time around.  Between the amazing special effects and plot Inception was an unforgettable film.  Another thing a lot of people didn’t like was the ending, to me the ending was imaginative and original.  And probably my favorite part of the movie.  Inception’s mood stayed pretty dark and serious most of the movie.  In the end the movie left you wondering if it truly had ended happily or not.

Overall I think Inception is a true classic that audiences will enjoy for years to come.   I would give this scifi thriller a 4.5, so it’s pretty obvious I enjoyed it and would recommend it to any one who  enjoys movies that are complicated and  mind  boggling.

Trash Responce

  • The conditions were terrible, it was hot and the people were held in small cages that gave them little room. Though they got fed it was very little, the children there probably were imprisoned because of fighting or stealing.
  • They had to show her passport and her ID.  Then they were moved from various waiting rooms and finally were informed they would have to pay a thousand dollars.
  • He discovered that Rat not only had over 2 thousand pesos but that he was not born in Behala but Sampalo.  Where he learned to fish.
  • He tells them that Angelico smuggled the 6 million dollars out of the mansion in a broken down refrigerator.
  • First of all I would probably go on a shopping spree, then I would deposit the rest and put it towards a good college and depending on how much I had left I would donate some to a charity.

Memories

When I hear the word “friend” Maxine immediately comes to mind.  Maxine has been one of my best friends ever since kindergarten.  She has short, brown, curly hair and she is almost always wearing black.  We’re different in lots of ways; she’s good at almost everything and, well there’s a rare few things I can say I’m completely skilled at.  Or when I say “Today’s gonna be totally awesome!” she’ll say.   “Looks like it’s gonna rain.  ”Though we’re different we are alike in someways.  We both think school’s about as interesting as wet mud.  Though if I were good at all subjects like her, I think I would like it more.
I remember when I first met her.  She was catching Roley-pollys and putting them in a bucket, when I asked her what she was going to do with them, she replied “What we always do, pour water in the bucket and drown them.”  Since I was new,  I shrugged and joined in, in this usual affair of the playground.  But that I think was the time we drowned Roley-Pollys.  After that we started digging up the little rocks out of the path.  Finally they replaced the pebble path with big slates of rock.Because they were so sick of us digging it up.
Though that was eight years ago we stayed friends the entire time.  And we’re still friends even though I moved away.  And we’ll never forget those days in kindergarten when we drowned Roley-Pollys.
